park(ing) day 2009

friday sep 18th was park(ing) day, an international sit-in, where metered parking spaces are transformed into urban parks for the day. it is said that the whole thing was first put together by rebar, an art, design, and activism collective from San Francisco. while some think of the occupation as a statement for better ways to utilize space, others (me included) like better the experience of urban intervention/temporary occupation of the the cityscape as a means to invoke their rights to the city. either way, to check some pics that prove how popular the idea is pay a quick visit to park(ing) day.
